Recent Archaeological Research in Glendalough

Since 2009 the UCD School of Archaeology have been working in the Glendalough valley, addressing broad questions about the evolution of the valley over time. This has included excavations, geophysical survey and palaeoenvironmental work. We have run an active outreach project, working with schools and other groups to run tours of our work.

In 2012 we had a project blog – updated daily with information from the excavations. We have recently posted the first of an intended series of newsletters – brief summaries of our results to date. These include a discussion of our excavations on the lawns of the Upper Lake, and a review of our work on charcoal production and woodland history in the area. Both newsletters can be found by following this link or can be downloaded by clicking on the pdf.s below.
