Wicklow Community Archaeology Event

A one day public seminar on the theme of Community Archaeology in Wicklow was held in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Sat 27th May 2017.

The event was organised as an action of the county Wicklow Heritage Plan in response to the growing interest  in community-led historical and archaeological research in recent years and the level of activity in this area in Wicklow.

The aims of the event were to:

  • Support existing and encourage new, community based archaeological and heritage recording initiatives
  • Provide opportunities for various groups to showcase their work and to share information and experiences
  • Explore opportunities and mutual challenges for the development of community based archaeology in Wicklow.

We had a stimulating and action packed programme with an attendance of c. 60 people. Copies of the presentations from the day have been kindly provided by our the speakers and are available below as pdfs. Part of the day also included  a group discussion, a  record of which is included below.
