County Wicklow Partnership and the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council are delighted to offer a FREE training course for community groups across county Wicklow. This training is being offered to any group or collection of groups , that are interested in making their local area more biodiversity friendly. The course will upskill and teach volunteers about how to take practical short and long term management actions to enhance their local natural environment and, as part of the training, participating groups will each develop biodiversity action plans for their town, village or area.
We would like to engage with all sorts of groups across county Wicklow – this can include tidy towns groups, community development groups, Men’s Sheds, Sports clubs, Residents Associations, Youth groups, gardening groups and any other interested groups.
We aim to develop 10 Local Biodiversity Plans across county Wicklow and invite Expressions of Interest by 12th March. To get involved, please complete a short form to tell us more about your local group, your activities and your needs. Click here to fill in form. We will seek to include as many interested groups as possible within the final programme and will seek to cluster groups together if there are multiple submissions from the same town/village/area.
The Course will be delivered by an experienced team with multi disciplinary expertise consisting of Faith Wilson, Ecologist, Dick Coombes, Ornithologist and Prof Ken Whelan, Fisheries biologist.
We anticipate that the course will commence in May 2021 with training times to suit the majority of participants. Delivery of the training sessions will be informed by relevant Covid 19 public health advice.
