History Ireland Hedgeschool Podcast: North Wicklow in the Revolutionary Period

As part of our Wicklow Decade of Centenaries: The Historians’ Project – Wicklow County Council’s Archives Service is delighted to present Wicklow in the Revolutionary Period – a new podcast produced by History Ireland Hedgeschools.

Drawing from the themes of their fascinating War of Independence articles published on Our Wicklow Heritage are our very own Wicklow historians Rosemary Raughter (Greystones), Brian White and James Scannell (Bray) along with John Dorney (editor of ‘The Irish Story’) in conversation with “school master” Tommy Graham about Wicklow’s unique experience during this turbulent period.

Wicklow in the revolutionary decade (part 1, North)

While not in the vanguard of armed activity in the revolutionary decade, Wicklow was, nevertheless, active in other respects. Moreover, its unique characteristics—proximity to Dublin, pioneering development of tourism, and one of the highest Protestant populations outside Ulster—make it worthy of study.

This is the first of two podcasts commissioned by Wicklow County Council with the support of the Commemorations Unit of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. The next podcast will feature South County Wicklow historians – more information to follow shortly.
