Poem: Love in the Time of Corona

Love in the time of Corona
In this time of isolation
We have sickness
We have despair
We have death
We have hope
But really what matters most

LOVE

I am alone
The sky is blue and grey and clear
No sound of commuters
No school buses
Children’s playgrounds empty
Only the sound of silence
The world goes on as it must
I pull back the blinds
I listen to a thrush singing in the glowing woods
Songs of praise
Songs of sorrow
Songs of love
I do not fear loneliness
I love to watch the morning sunrise from my kitchen window
I love to watch the pebbles of rain move across the landscape
I love the buzzing and rumbling of the bumble bee
I love my garden
The abundance of fresh leaves
The quietness of the branches
A little wren hopping about in the privet
The beauty of nature
We fuss over life oblivious to what really matters

LOVE

Corona has made us see things differently
We appreciate the magic of music
Poetry reminds us of the beauty of life
The postman calling with a post card and those thoughtful words
“Thinking of you and missing you so much”
Yes, I do miss the little things
Big hugs from my children and Grandchildren
Meeting my friends for a social coffee
The voices of children playing
My long daily walk
Now in the silence I gaze out my window
I watch the sun slowly sinking
Another day has passed
I am happy to be loving and loved
“In the time of Corona”
