Winners of the ‘Best New Entry Award’ in 2014, with their Glenasmole PURE Mile, the community were again prize winners in 2015 winning both the ‘Best Community Effort and Best Built/Social Heritage’ awards. Located in county Dublin not too far from the Wicklow border the community came out in full force to record, improve and showcase their beautiful area.
The Mile begins at Castle Kelly Bridge and ends at Head of the brakes. It takes in some well known landmarks together with some lesser known. Much action was carried out by the local community which involved both improving and restoring various sites throughout the Mile. Local children were involved in creating and exhibiting notice boards outlining the local flora and fauna. A Heritage Day was held to gather more information about the area and an open air céilí at the crossroads to top everything off!
