County Wicklow Biodiversity Action Plan

Wicklow County Council produced the first Biodiversity Plan for Wicklow in December 2010.  The Wicklow Plan was produced as an action of the County Heritage Plan with funding suppport from the Heritage Council and in response to National policy.

Primarily a Local Authority-led Action Plan, it is intended to provide a focussed approach for the county, identifying priorities, habitats and species in need of attention and the action required to secure their future.  It also identifies opportunities and needs for partnership work and, essentially, is the start of a targeted and coordinated approach to biodiversity conservation in the county.

The Plan includes an audit of biodiversity in Wicklow in terms of; protected species, habitats and designations, important species and any information about current status of these and invasive species.

It also sets out a strategic plan of actions for biodiversity under the following themes: To better understand our biodiversity in Wicklow; To raise awareness of biodiversity; To conserve and enhance habitats & species and To foster active participation and  encourage partnership to look after biodiversity in Wicklow.
