Heritage Maps
Exploring your local area from the comfort of your desk and finding out more about the heritage on your doorstep just got easier with Heritage Maps, an exciting new site developed by the Heritage Council and supported by Wicklow Local authorities as an action of the County Heritage Plan. It is used to display lots of different heritage information, such as locations of archaeological & nature conservation sites and should be of interest to community groups, historical societies and PURE mile committees in Wicklow
Heritage Maps allows you to look at a wide range of built and natural heritage data sets in map form, much of which have never been accessible to the public before. Heritage Maps can be used to create customized maps, measure area and distance, identify points of interest and study local flora and fauna, as well as many other uses both recreational and research-based.
The datasets were collected by both government departments and local authorities, including Wicklow. Click here to go to the Heritage Council’s website and start exploring your area.
This new tool is a work in progress and the Heritage Council would love to hear what you think and any ideas that you might have for how it could work better. You can send your feedback by completing and returning the response form below.

I’ve just spent the last two hours playing on this site – it’s wonderful! Even better is the fact that it is just up and running and they are asking for everyone to give feedback. I suggest you take a couple of townlands at most and see what information they have on each site. A lot need to be updated, but that’s what they are asking for. This will be a really great tool in years to come.
