Bat Walk at Blessington Nature Reserve

Would you like to learn a little bit more about Ireland’s bat species? If so then come along to the Native Woodland Trust bat walk on 29th August at the NWT Blessington Reserve.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s rare native and ancient woodland. The Trust achieves this by setting up woodland reserves around the country. This reserves network allows the Trust to protect existing woodland as well as plant new native woodland for the future. Part of the work we do involves running educational and fun events for our members and the public to encourage more people to use their local woodlands.

On this bat walk we will be learning a little bit about the bats you could find in Ireland, and we will be listening to their calls using bat detectors to find out what bats are flying above us on the Native Woodland Trust’s Blessington Reserve. Remember to dress for the cooler evening weather!

The meeting point for this event will be at the ESB car park off the N81 just south of the reserve. For a map and further details please check our website www.nativewoodlandtrust.ie or the events section of our Facebook page. All are welcome. The event is free for members with a suggested donation of €4 for non-members.

For more details please contact Niall at niall.oreilly@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on 087 1953629.

Meeting Point: ESB car park on N81 south of the reserve.

Meeting Time: 9pm – 10:30pm.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our native woodlands. Native woodland is a scarce habitat in Ireland and we are actively engaged in its protection through the acquisition of woodland sites and the planting of new community woodland reserves. We currently have six woodland reserves; two in Co Wicklow, one in Co Leitrim, one in Waterford, one in Westmeath, one in Meath and we are in the process of expanding our reserves network. Together with local communities and volunteers we transform these sites into native woodlands through tree and wildflower planting and careful maintenance. We always aim to plant native trees of local varieties grown from local seed in our own nurseries. To complement our woodland creation and protection, we engage in environmental education and awareness aimed at increasing knowledge and appreciation of Ireland’s woodland heritage.
