Celebrate Pastimes & Past Times in County Wicklow

A full programme of events is planned through County Wicklow for Heritage Week which runs from August 17th to the 25th.This year for Heritage Week everyone is invited to celebrate “Pastimes and Past Times”, which is a call to action for people to discover, interpret and embrace their heritage and in turn create their own new pastime: to become an explorer, an archaeologist, a storyteller, a wildlife enthusiast.

Make an insect hotel, join a bat walk after dark, be a junior archaeologist find out more about history or just share a few tunes, there is  something for everyone

Co-ordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage Week has become one of Ireland’s largest cultural events.  Last year more than half-a-million people attended events across the country, most of which were hosted by communities, volunteers and individuals who champion Ireland’s heritage in its many forms.

The Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council has worked with groups throughout the year to co-ordinate events and has produced a pocket-sized printed event guide listing all the activities throughout the county.  The guide can be used in conjunction with www.heritageweek.ie and is available to pick up at libraries, Council offices and tourist offices or by email request to dburns@wicklowcoco.ie. [**DOWNLOAD AS A PDF BELOW]. If your interests lie in making an insect hotel, joining a bat walk after dark, participating in a junior archaeological dig, finding out more about history or just sharing a few tunes, there is  something for everyone in Wicklow this year.  The vast majority of activities are free of charge and family friendly and make an ideal end of summer activity.
