Festival Of History Weekend, Greystones

 

 The Festival of History Weekend is envisaged as an opportunity for local history societies and heritage associations throughout Wicklow and beyond to make contact with others involved in the field, display their journals and publications, and publicize their ongoing activities and forthcoming events. .

 The La Touche Legacy Committee and the Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society are delighted to announce a Festival of History Weekend, to be held in Charlesland Golf and Country Club, Greystones, Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September 2014.

 The weekend, focussing on the forthcoming centenary of World War 1, will feature the Great War Roadshow, with contributions from RTE broadcaster and historian, Dr Myles Dungan, historians Turtle Bunbury, Dr Ciaran Wallace and John O’Keeffe, while a Wicklow perspective on the events of 1914-18 will be provided by local historian, Brendan Flynn.  For further details on the format of the Roadshow, here

 In addition, there will be talks from Cllr Christopher Fox, Anne Ferris TD, Lord Meath and Rosemary Raughter.

While material relating to World War 1 will be of particular relevance to the overall theme, one of the primary functions of the weekend will be to provide a showcase for the wide range of research in which local history societies and local historians are currently engaged
