From Cronelea to Emu Bay, to Timaru and Back: A Convicts Story

The next talk hosted by the  Rathdrum Historical Society will take place in Rathdrum Community School on Monday 3rd November @ 8 pm, when Joan Kavanagh will give a talk “From Cronelea to Emu Bay, Timaru and back again: A Convicts Tale” . All welcome.

Regular visitors to this site will be aware of the  tale  of Eliza Davis, a 19th century orphan and servant  from south county Wicklow, her subsequent deportation as a convict to Tasmania and her  new life in the Penal Colonies , through the two in depth articles by Joan Kavanagh on this subject  click here . This talk will be an invaluable opportunity to find out more about how this fascinating and often tragic story unravelled.
