Irish Banknotes – an Inside Story

Louis O’Byrne

Louis O’Byrne’s talk will cover Irish banknotes through history and Irish history through our banknotes.  Although we use our banknotes on a daily basis, very few of us have actually looked at them closely. But if we examine them in detail they reveal a surprisingly broad and rich tapestry of our history and culture.  The talk will look at our history from this very different perspective.

Louis O’Byrne is the former Head of the Irish Banknote Printing Works and Mint in Sandyford, South Dublin.  He was centrally involved in the changeover to the Euro and is currently Chair of the Central Bank of Ireland’s Numismatic Advisory Committee.
