Kilmacanogue History Society - 1st April meeting

KILMACANOGUE HISTORY SOCIETY Glenview Hotel – Tuesday 1st April 2014 “The Merchant and Craft Guilds – from Medieval times to their modern equivalents”  by Dermot Cranny.

Dermot Cranny will present an illustrated talk reviewing the concept and structure of the Medieval Guilds System and relate the guilds to their modern equivalents. The talk will move from antiquity to the present, outlining the origins of crafts and trades. In particular it will describe the ‘Merchants and Craft Guilds’, and discuss the influence of these guilds on the development of the Labour Organisation and the Apprenticeship System. Some relevant memorabilia and exhibits will be on display during the night. Dermot Cranny served a recognized apprenticeship and is a qualified Craftsman who also holds a Masters Degree in Education.

Together with his wife Ann they are hardworking valued members of our Society.
