Kilmacanogue History Society - 4th March meeting.

This talk, fully illustrated will relate to some of County Wicklow’s historic demesnes and gardens seen from two unique vantage points – those of the artists who painted them and the travellers who left detailed descriptions. It will range from the well known such as Powerscourt and Killruddery to those that have disappeared like Bellevue and Blessington, and will also include the lesser-known such as Glencormac and Hollybrook with many of the images being newly discovered. Patricia’s talk will be based on a forthcoming publication Wicklow through the Artist’s Eye which was written and researched by Mary Davies and herself and due to be published by Wordwell in the Spring. Both authors are experienced writers and researchers, with many previous publications. Mary Davies is a former editor, and author of That Favourite Resort: the story of Bray, Co. Wicklow (2007). Patricia Butler is an art historian and lecturer living in Co. Wicklow, and author of a number of publications relating to Irish art, the most recent being The Silent Companion: an Illustrated History of the Water Colour Society of Ireland(2010). The Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs 8.30PM on Tuesday 4th March Entry €3 (€2 for members) – all welcome Website: kilmacanoguehistorysociety.com
