Interpreting the physical landscape of Wicklow
William P. Warren
The physical landscape of Wicklow has enthralled our speaker since he was very young. In this talk, focusing largely on the mountains and on eastern Wicklow, he will illustrate through the eyes of a long line of geologists and others, how our understanding of the Wicklow landscape has evolved over the centuries and will place this in the context of our innate human interest in the physical environment, its beauty, utility and challenges.
Dr. William Warren (aka Liam Ó Bharáin) is a physical geographer and geologist who has spent more than 40 years mapping and writing on the glacial geology of Ireland. His earliest geological work was done, first as an undergraduate and then with the Geological Survey of Ireland, in Co. Wicklow. Following retirement he has continued to publish on geology, but has also published a number of poems, short stories and other items mainly in the Irish language.
No Wicklow hill-walker, nature lover, farmer or gardener will want to miss this landmark event!
