Ireland’s  Wicklow  Anzacs - Jeff  Kildea

Seventy four men and one woman from County Wicklow enlisted in the Australian forces during the First World War.  Of these 13 were killed or died as a result of their war service.  In this talk Professor Jeff Kildea will examine Wicklow’s contribution to the Australian war effort and tell the stories of some of the Irish Anzacs from Wicklow who fought and died in the war.  He will also speak about the Irish Anzac Project which aims to identify all the Irish-born who served in the Australian forces during the war.

Jeff Kildea is the Keith Cameron Professor of Australian History at University College Dublin and an adjunct at the Global Irish Studies Centre at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. He is the author of Anzacs and Ireland (Cork UP,2007), a study of the relationship between Australian soldiers and Ireland during the First World War. He is currently compiling a database of all the Irish-born who served in the Australian forces during the war, which will be available on line.
