Art, Artifacts and Old Buildings in Dublin and Wicklow
Peter Pearson
Peter Pearson has been instrumental in the preservation of the built heritage in Wicklow and Dublin. He has ‘rescued’ and preserved numerous artifacts of architectural significance himself. He will make us aware of the challenges that are involved in such endeavours.
Peter is a native of Dun Laoghaire and has been a professional painter and writer all his life. His work is often inspired by the architectural heritage of Dublin and surrounding counties. He has been involved with many campaigns to save old buildings and has much practical experience in their restoration. The saving of Drimnagh Castle, and the Sick and Indigent Roomkeepers’ house in Dublin, are two such projects.
Members will be aware of Peter’s earlier books, for instance, The Heart of Dublin: resurgence of an historic city (2000) and Between the Mountains and the Sea: Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County (2007). More recently, he brought out Of Sea and Stone, which features many of his paintings, some of which relate to the Built Heritage and landscape of this area.
