Laragh Woodland Volunteer Day

Sick of being stuck indoors over winter? Why not join us for a volunteer day? On Saturday 6th February a volunteer day will be taking place on the Native Woodland Trust’s site in Laragh.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s rare native and ancient woodland. The Trust achieves this by setting up woodland reserves around the country, such as the Laragh reserve. This reserves network allows the Trust to protect existing woodland as well as plant new native woodland for the future. Part of the work we do involves running educational and fun events for our members and the public to encourage more people to use their local woodlands.

There is lots of work to be carried out. We need to clear gorse out of the exclosures where our young trees are, plant new native trees and fix tree guards that have been damaged in the recent bad weather. All help would be appreciated! There is a short, steep slope to get to the site and so this is not suitable for everyone… but the views from the site are fantastic! This event is weather dependent. We provide the tools but be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear!

Don’t forget to bring along a snack and a drink!

The meeting point for this event will be at 11am at Trooperstown Forest car park. For a map and further details please check our website or the events section of our Facebook page. This event is weather dependent. For more details please contact Rebecca at or on 087 9619083.
