Launch of La Touche Legacy Seminar & Festival of History

The 29th La Touche Legacy Seminar and 4th Festival of History will be launched on Monday 29th May 2017 at 7pm in Greystones Golf Club. Following the Launch, Prof. Michael Laffan (UCD) will give a lecture on W.T. Cosgrave.  The main Seminar and dinner will take place on Friday and Saturday 29th and 30th September 2017 in Greystones Golf Club.

The main theme this year is “The Foundation of a New State”.  Topics will range from political activity and government to the part of minorities in the new state, and specifically in the GAA, to the role of women and the writing of the Irish Revolution.  Local History will be represented by Joan Kavanagh’s illustrated lecture on the emergence of Glendalough as a tourist centre.

Once more the Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society is collaborating with the La Touche Legacy Committee in bringing this annual event to the local community and further afield. The Chairman of the La Touche Legacy, George Jones, and the Chairperson of the Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society, Rosemary Raughter are delighted to welcome Anne Daly of Supervalu, Greystones as the sponsor of the event.

Speakers at the main event in September will include Dr. Conor Mulvagh (UCD), Prof. Maurice Manning (UCD), Dr. Ide Milne (NUI, Maynooth), Dr. Mel Farrell (NUI Maynooth), Dr. Leanne Lane (DCU). Ms. Joan Kavanagh will deliver the Annual Jim Brennan Memorial Lecture on the Saturday, while we are delighted that Dr. Martin Mansergh will be the guest speaker at the dinner on the Saturday evening.

All are welcome at the Launch and Lecture on Monday 29th May in Greystones Golf Club at 7pm.
