Megalithic Art Exhibition, Signal Arts Centre, Bray

Monday, March 5, 2018 at 10:00 am to Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 05:00 pm

Signal Arts Centre at 1 Albert Avenue, Bray, County Wicklow.

Celebrating our 5,000 year old megalithic art is the theme of a solo exhibition by Irish Artist Erika Tyner.  The exhibition takes place at the Signal Arts Centre in Bray, Co. Wicklow in March.

Sun Rising, The Power of the Stones is a contemporary interpretation of our ancient art found at Bru na Boinne, Knowth and Loughcrew, our world renowned heritage sites of burial mounds, solar alignment and megalithic art.

Central to the work is the sense that modern society is progressing at such a speed that we may be losing our link with the past.  Folk knowledge and the stone images are fading.  Site visits along with careful research of texts and old drawings – including the Du Noyer Collection at  the Royal Irish Academy – was undertaken to inspire these artworks.

Our ancestors valued their life, their light, their harvest and as they tried to make sense of their world, they etched their vision on stone – the only material they had that would last.

So come awhile before the light fades, and ponder on the meaning of the symbols carved in stone, many millennia ago.

Reception:  Sunday 11th March 2018, @ 3pm.

The exhibition runs from 5th – 18th March, admission is free, all welcome.
