Native Woodland Trust Event

Native Woodland Trust Volunteer Day

Saturday 28th September: NWT Laragh Reserve Volunteer Day

This October we will be continuing our plight to turn our Laragh reserve into beautiful native woodland by planting it up with hundreds more native trees. Before we can plant these trees we first need to prepare the site. If you would like to lend a hand then come along to our volunteer day on Saturday 28th September.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s rare native and ancient woodland. The Trust achieves this by setting up woodland reserves around the country such as the reserve in Laragh, County Wicklow. This reserves network allows the Trust to protect existing woodland as well as plant new native woodland for the future. Most of the work on these reserves are carried out on volunteer days.

On this volunteer day we will be building deer exclosures to protect the young trees that will be planted next month. Building deer exclosures can be quite a labour intensive exercise, but as they say many hands make light work. This is a perfect opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Wicklow Mountains while playing your part in ensuring the success of this beautiful woodland reserve for future generations. The meeting point for this day will be at 11:00 am at the Brockagh Centre car park in Laragh. For a map and further details please check our website http://www.nativewoodlandtrust.ie/ or the events section of our Facebook page. The event will run from 11:00 am until 4:00pm and all are welcome even if it’s only for a couple of hours. For more details please contact Kirsty at kirsty.daly@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on 087 9619083.
