The Geological Heritage Of Wicklow

The exhibition currently on show in the foyer of County Buildings, Wicklow Town is based on an audit of County Geological Sites in Wicklow. The audit was carried out as an action of the County Wicklow Heritage Plan in 2014 and funded by Wicklow County Council, the Heritage Council and the Geological Survey of Ireland. The aim of the study was to identify those sites of greatest geological interest in Wicklow with a view to affording these protection as County Geological Heritage Sites in the Wicklow County Development Plan.
The audit provides maps, images and baseline information on over seventy sites of geological importance in County Wicklow. This is a rich archive and demonstrates the diversity of this aspect of our Wicklow heritage. County Geological Heritage sites are displayed through photography and short descriptions in the current exhibition. The full report, and individual site reports are hosted on the GSI’s website at the following direct link Geological Heritage Of Wicklow .
