Tour of O'Byrne Country - County Wicklow

The committe of Clan O’Byrne have recently been in discussions with the Military History Society of Ireland regarding a tour of the O’Byrne Country.

Beginning at Newcastle

The tour is to begin at Newcastle at the old castle there – which was the official residence of the seneschals of the O’Byrne Country from the 1560s onwards.

Deputy’s Pass & Glenmalure

It will also take in Deputy’s Pass near Glenealy where Phelim McHugh O’Byrne defeated Seneschal Sir Henry Harrington on 28 May 1599 before proceeding to Glenmalure to the site of Feagh McHugh’s victory over Lord Grey on 25 August 1580.

Lectures

Dr. Emmett O’Byrne has been asked by the Military History Society of Ireland to give a lecture at all three sites.

Glenmalure Lodge

It is intended that there will be stop off for lunch in the Glenmalure Lodge. All details will be confirmed after Wednesday 29 July 2015.    All are welcome!
