Van Diemen's Women Talk

Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society Upcoming Talk

The speaker for our Thursday 20th October 2016 meeting will be Wicklow historian Joan Kavanagh who will give us a talk on ‘Van Diemen’s Women: a history of transportation to Tasmania’. Joan’s 2015 book on this subject, written in association with Dianne Snowden, focuses on the 138 women and their 35 children shipped out to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) in 1845, with particular reference to Eliza Davis, transported from Wicklow Gaol, having been reprieved from death on a charge of infanticide. This event will take place in the Family Centre, Holy Rosary Church, Greystones at 8.00pm. There will be a €2.00 charge to cover costs. All are welcome.
