Family tree researching

I am doing my family tree.  My mum  came from Dunlavin,  and she came to England in the 20’s. she told me she worked as an under-housemaid in a large house somewhere near Dunlavin. I wrote to Powerscourt but it wasn’t there, she had two sisters. One was Nellie Byrne – she lived in Church Rd, and the other May Keogh  not sure where she lived, and James (Jim) Keogh who lived at Newbridge.  Her father was an RSM in the Army he was in the Boer War, and  she told me nothing about him, except that he said if she went to England. he would never allow her back in the house and she only went back when he died.   After my mother passed away, I found a paper with the information on his funeral, and it says he was a crack shot with the the army. Also he was the orginal instigator of the peoples volunteer army and I want to find out more about this.

She also told me that when she was a young girl at home her mother often had many famous well they were not then  to the home. for example  the Everly brothers. Val Doonican , – and I know that for true, because when I was with her and my father one day in a place called Teignmouth S.Devon.  He was there and he came and spoke with her and asked about her parents.

Her mother was called Catherine (nee Flood).  I want to find out more about these people. They all sound such interesting people. She used to go to the Curragh to watch the racing. She saw the Agha Khan which I thought was a person. and discovered it was a horse! Her grandfather Murt Keogh was killed at the Manchester Races back in the  20’s or 30’s.

So is there anyone still around who could help me.  Do you think i need to come over to Eire  for my research?
