Wicklow's Ice Age

A mountain ice cap: Wicklow 20000 years ago.

The Irish landscape has undergone huge changes over the past 4.6 billion years.  There have been various large scale global events which have mapped Ireland through geological process such as the action of rivers and the sea and peat formation.  The last mega-geological event to affect the Irish landscape was the Ice Age or Glaciation which occurred between 73,000 and 10,000 years ago.  This had a huge and lasting effect on our landscape being the final shaping over the majority of our countryside.
