1970 honeymoon

In June 1970 my wife and I spent our honeymoon touring the beautiful Emerald Isle.

Towards the end of our tour around Ireland in our hired VW Beetle from Rosslare, we arrived in our chosen B&B in Wicklow.I had a T-Bone steak in a local hotel in town that I still talk about .

A bank strike was on and our lovely lady B&B hostess’ husband had been stuck in a hotel some miles north ( it may have been Bray ?).  I think it was some sort of posh English hippies in there. He was there in his official capacity but could not leave. The hotel ownership was in dispute .

She didn’t drive.

Her husband was the Sheriff of Wicklow and had not been allowed to leave the property from May when the bank strike began, she hadn’t seen him for weeks.

We took her up to see him. She was very pleased .We all were …nobody could pay for drinks ! We all had a good time.

I still tell that story too.

I can’t remember their names ( sorry) but if they read this and are still around or any of the family of the 1970 Sheriff of Wicklow or his/ her family read this we are coming back in June 2020!

50 years on it would lovely to say hello. Golden Wedding  trip about mid -June 2020

and I might have a steak somewhere in town ….I hope !
