Local Agenda 21 Fund Open For Applications

Local Agenda 21

Local Agenda 21 is a process which facilitates sustainable development at community level. It is based on participation which respects the social, cultural, economic and environmental needs of the present and future citizens of a community in all its diversity and which relates that community and its future to the regional, national and international community of which it is a part. Any Local Agenda 21 project will take into account the quality of life of the entire community in the long term, will include a high level of participation at local level and is integrated into other aspects of community life.

Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund 2014

Details of the 2014 Fund have now been announced. Communities, individuals, not-for-profit groups or organisations are invited to apply for this years’ grant aid.

Environmental Awareness

Do you have a project or initiative that could help to increase local levels of environmental awareness, or that could help your community to become more sustainable?

If so, you may qualify for financial assistance from the Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Environmental Partnership Fund 2014. This Fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at local level.

Does Your Project Qualify?

Projects should focus on environmental awareness and actions which complement national environmental policies such as those on waste, biodiversity, water conservation and climate change.

A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years, including community gardens and allotments, compost schemes, rainwater harvesting, biodiversity projects, waste reduction initiatives, educational initiatives and environmental exhibitions. Lists of previously funded projects can be viewed online at www.environ.ie

Amount of grant

Generally, up to 60% of project costs is available from the combined Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government / Wicklow County Council funding. Accordingly, preference is given to projects where a significant amount of the cost (e.g. 40%) is met by the proposer or from other sources. (The grant is 50% funded from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and the other 50% from Wicklow County Council within the one grant payment.) Please see the Criteria for Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Grant Aid 2014.
