Waxwings in Wicklow

Shay Connolly

This winter we are experiencing an ‘invasion’ of Waxwings into Ireland! These charismatic & boldly coloured Scandinavian visitors have habit of feeding on berries in our parks, gardens & shopping centre car parks! As such they are widely encountered by members of the public.

We would like to put out a request for Waxwing records seen in Co. Wicklow & environs so far this winter. All we need is date, number of birds & location (street name, townland or grid ref where possible), sent to birdwatchwicklow@gmail.com. We can then log them to the branch BirdTrack account, part of a larger database aimed at understanding the status & distribution of birds in Ireland & the UK.

Please see the attached Wicklow branch newsletter for a more detailed write up on this bird
