Castlekevin Works Completed CMF 2022

The Conservation Management Plan for Castlekevin was submitted in compliance with the Community Monuments Fund for 2022 (Ref: CMF22-2-WI001).

The background to this project began in 2021 when for Heritage Week the committee of the
Roundwood and District Historical, Folklore and Archaeological Society made a drone
overflight video of Castlekevin which highlighted the alarming extent of the site’s
deterioration.

Anxious that such an important archaeological site be preserved, the committee approached Deirdre Burns, Heritage Officer for Wicklow County Council, for advice. A successful application was then made for a grant under the Community Monuments Fund in 2022 to allow the preparation of a conservation plan for this monument which is available to read at the end of this post.

Site meeting to discuss the Castlekevin Project.

With the generous permission of the landowners on whose property Castlekevin stands, the support of the Community Monuments Fund 2022, and the encouragement of the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council, the way was now clear for the Society to develop its Castlekevin Project.

Below is the Conservation report completed for the project in 2022.

A conservation plan for Castlekevin was completed on behalf of Wicklow County Council with funding from Community Monuments Fund 202 (Ref: CMF22-2-WI001) Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage.
