Our Wicklow Heritage Stories

Especially for Heritage Week 2020!

Four  short films revealing aspects of Wicklow’s hidden heritage. Focusing on  people, places and events as recounted by members of the local community and complemented by archival footage and narration  these films aim to share these stories and keep this heritage alive.

The films presented below were curated by the Heritage Office in collaboration with Bailey & Blake Film production during Covid lockdown in Spring 2020 and are largely based on information and footage derived from previous local heritage recording projects commissioned by the Heritage Office.

House in a day
The story of how the local community in Ballyknockan rallied together to prevent an eviction in 1888. The house may be viewed to this day in the village.
Lead Memories
Glendalough and Glenmalure were once busy hubs of mining activity, hear more from former miners and members of the local community who are keeping this heritage alive today.

Moving History
The construction of the Poulaphuca Dam and reservoir 1930's - 40's necessitated the flooding of the valley and the submerging of all that remained there. Hear the story and local reaction to the moving of the graveyard at Burgage
