Joan Kavanagh presented a piece of Nelson’s Pillar at the Wicklow 1916 Public Collections Day 2016. Her father (Martin Kavanagh) received this from an army officer during its demolition on the 8th of March 1966. As she and her father leaned over the barriers surrounding the statue’s remains, the bomb disposal officer handed it to her father just before they completed the demolition.
