Books about County Wicklow

Wicklow Books

Over the past couple of months, at least two new books about people, places and events in County Wicklow have been published. Seldom a year goes by without several new local publications appearing. I wondered if it would be a good idea to have a ‘Wicklow Books Available’ section on this Wicklow Heritage website. It would help readers – local and those abroad – to get to know what is available and, hopefully, will also prove beneficial to local historians trying to cover print costs!

If you have a relevant publication in print that you’d like to promote perhaps we could compile a useful list. The type of information needed would  author’s name, title, isbn (if any), a short description of the topic covered, the cost, and how it might be ordered. A photo of the cover might also be possible.

What do you think?

  • Okay, so what next? Could we spread the word to anyone we know who might have a book to be listed? In the meantime I could knock up a template with a few entries for consideration and hopefully we’ll see it grow from there. Your idea, Michael, of the library is an excellent one, but as these are already accessible through the county library’s on-line catalogue we might be better to concentrate on the more recent releases. Let’s spread the word through historical societies and individual writers out there.

  • Good idea. An up-to-date listing of books & articles on Wicklow history/heritage wd be very useful.c

  • Sounds like a great idea. Also there are lots of books with a significant element about Wicklow in them which could be worth recording. And if we were very keen, Ballywaltrim Library has an amazing range of books… it would be a labour of love, but a catalogue of their contents (e.g. place/topic) would be invaluable.

  • Excellent idea Jim, in particular for recent publications . We can easily create a Wicklow Books category if there is enough interest in this topic.
