Trails Of Greystones: Its Buildings And History

Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society, in association with the La Touche Legacy Committee, is delighted to announce the publication of Trails of Greystones, a guide to a walking tour of some of Greystones’s most historic sites.

The route, which begins and ends close to the DART station, will take you on a leisurely ramble through highlights of the town’s past, some of them well-known, while others are more quirky and unexpected. Discover Greystones’s links with 1916 and its part in the women’s suffrage campaign. Seek out its connections with writers such as Synge and Beckett, and the work of stained-glass artist Evie Hone. Recall its maritime associations going back to the days when it was no more than a tiny fishing village, see its coastguard station and cottages, and remember the heroism of the three men from the local Doyle family, drowned during a great storm in 1892.  And much, much more …

Trails of Greystone is available, free of charge, at Greystones Library, at Ireton’s shop (starting point of the trail), or at numerous businesses around the town – do pick up a copy, and enjoy the walk!
