Aughrim Heritage and Arts Weekend takes place from 12-4pm on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of October 2022.
Meeting point Saturday 8 October: The Pavilion at 12 noon
Meeting point Sunday 9 October: Kunstverein Aughrim at 12 noon
Developed by the Aughrim Active Retirement Group in collaboration with Kunstverein Aughrim, and supported by the Creative Ireland programme & Wicklow County Council, the weekend is a celebration of Aughrim’s history, heritage, architecture, arts and culture – past, present and future.

Saturday Programme

Starting in the Pavilion on Saturday 8 October at 12 noon we will open an exhibition of Aughrim’s fledgling Heritage Collection – a community initiative currently in development that consists mainly of a collection of items, documents, objects, photographs, ephemera, artefacts and other memorabilia of social, historical or personal significance, that tell the stories of Aughrim. This marks the first stage of development in the creation of an inventory of intangible heritage objects that we are currently building. As part of the opening we’ll hear a reading from ‘Who Remembers; Aughrim our Granite City’, and opening remarks by Deirdre Burns Heritage Officer of Wicklow County Council.

Sunday Programme

On Sunday 9 October at 12 noon we will launch a new art space in the village – Kunstverein Aughrim – beside the monument. Kunstverein Aughrim is a curatorial office and production agency for visual art projects, and is part of the international network of ‘kunstvereins’ (art clubs). We will unveil the inaugural artistic commission by an artist collective called Forerunner, alongside a programme of performances and other artistic activities, including new commissions by artists Isadora Epstein, Rich Gilligan, Yurika Higashikawa and more.

On both days there will be food served from The Stonecutter Cafe, as well as live music and walking tours around the village, all happening between 12 noon and 4pm.
