I am trying to find out where my 4G-GF might have lived in Wicklow. I found him on the Tythe Applotment Books for 1832 in Ballinapark. I’ve recently found a reference from 1822 where Daniel Tighe and William Hamilton were paid to open a new line of road, 211 perches from Wicklow to Dublin between Mr. Wm. Murray’s gate (Ballinapark) and Miss Eyrberrys bridge (Mount Usher). I can find no other mention of Eyrberrys bridge. I wondered if this was near Ballinapark House which is located in that area and in fact if this may have been William’s house?

Hello there,
I suspect Miss Eyrberrys bridge was a local name at Mount Usher – there is no mention of it in Price’s Placenames of County Wicklow, which is quite a comprehensive survey. I can only see two mentions of the surname in the parish records – two burials in the late 1700s in the Wicklow Church of Ireland parish register – no address given, and I could not see a headstone in Wicklow Churchyard. The family may have long left the area, but the name of the bridge might have persisted for a short time. You might like to compare the maps on the National Monuments Service site – a handy link into them is via the Ballinapark House page on https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/16402504/ballina-park-house-ballinapark-ne-by-newrath-wicklow . Also, Griffith’s Valuation and maps on http://www.askaboutireland.ie.
Hope this helps in some small way, regards, Catherine Wright, Wicklow County Archives archives@wicklowcoco.ie
