A Journey through Wicklow by Old Postcards
A talk at the Glenview Hotel by James O Brien – Tuesday 7th October 2014, 8.30 pm
James will take us on an imaginary journey around Wicklow in the earlier part of the last century through the medium of old postcards. Approaching Enniskerry from the Scalp we will travel down the Dargle to Bray, south to Greystones, Delgany, Kilcoole, Newcastle and as far as Arklow; then inland to West Wicklow, returning over the mountains to Roundwood and finally home to Kilmac– all this through the magic of some wonderful old postcards.
James will also outline the international development of the humble postcard and tell us of the many Wicklow publishers of these cards.
James O’Brien spent his early years in the Enniskerry area where he developed his lifelong interest in postcards and coins. He is a well-recognised figure at many national and local antique fairs. As an expert deltiologist he has kindly agreed to discuss and value any interesting old postcards you care to bring along on the night.
This promises to be a most interesting meeting – its on the cards!
